Why SLO Classical Academy?

Here are the Top Ten Things that Distinguish SLO Classical Academy . . .

1. 12 Students Per Class
A close relationship with teachers allows individualized attention and commitment to discover each child's own learning style and pace so they can flourish. In addition, the small size allows for rich and inspiring classroom discussions and safe environments in which all are respected.

2. Creativity and Learning by Doing
Both are highly encouraged and are supported by a daily activity in every subject, making learning both engaging and meaningful.

3. Integrated Educational Experience
The “Outside the Box” education is based on a historical time line in math, science, literature, history, art, music, and beliefs for that period, connecting all these subjects into a very meaningful whole.

4. Classical Model
This time-tested model provides students (and families) with a strong foundation of knowledge, gives them the tools to think for themselves and teaches them how to express themselves effectively, preparing them uniquely to become our future leaders in a wide variety of settings.

5. No Evening School Work
Because most families choose to complete their work during what is usually considered as “school hours,” families and children have time for fine arts, recreation, family activities and family reading, allowing a less stressful but more engaged lifestyle.

6. A Unique Partnership Between Teacher and the Family
Parents , teachers and students work together for the success and development of each student and family. Classroom teachers are considered both partners and mentors.

7. Community Partnership
We invite instructors in arts & other specialties onto campus to further enrich the students’ education, and are constantly seeking community feedback and ways to contribute to the community.

8. Group and Individual Project - Based Learning
Group work and a project-based approach makes learning meaningful by integrating multiple areas of study, allowing individual interests to be pursued within a subject, and by peers driving motivation rather than teachers alone.

9. Entire Family Engaged in Learning Experience
Parents and children together experience classical literature and integrated studies. The entire family is educated together, providing an intimacy and aliveness in the home that is unique!

10. Focus on Character
Addressing character comes naturally – from the Code of Conduct to the small classroom sizes, the intimate relationship between teachers and the families, the heavy use of literature, and the examination of history – all contribute to speaking the message that character truly does count!
